Ilyushin IL-76

A cargo plane Il-76 was developed in the USSR by Ilyushin Design Bureau in the late 1960s. The machine is designed for the transportation of troops, military equipment and a variety of goods. It has become the first Soviet military transport aircraft with jet engines. The maiden flight of the new transporter held March 25, 1971. After flight tests were finished IL-76 entered service in the military transport aviation of the USSR in 1974.

The plane with registration number 76732 after the collapse of the USSR became part of the 25th transport aviation brigade of the Air Force of Ukraine. In 2000 year, the aircraft took part in the operation to deliver fuel to the polar station "Nord". In memory of this event, on both sides of the fuselage, the plane carries an emblem with a Cossack and the inscription in Ukrainian "Ukraine. North Pole. 2000."
